I’ve been a busy girl. During December the Red Room in our house almost got finished, so I thought I’d share with you what I have been up to! The feature of the room is this gorgeous fireplace area, set off beautifully by the wallpaper. It’s called Daydream by Julia Rothman for Hygge and West. I can’t emphasize enough how lovely it is! I am tempted to use another colourway in the bedroom but the other half says no – not because he doesn’t like it, but because he thinks I am obsessive!

We also snapped up a couple of eBay bargains. The woodburner was from Cactus Leisure and after doing an excessive amount of shopping around, I can confirm it was a good deal at £200. The fire surround cost just £49 from Pine Stuff. A couple of licks of white paint and it was the perfect oversized chunky surround I was after.

We’ve been doing this room on a budget, so of course that meant a quick trip to Ikea. We grabbed two two seater sofas – the Kivik in red (£349) and a cheap and cheerful Solsta 2 seater sofa bed (£89) in dark grey and some Anita curtains (£29.99). The olsta looks particulary drab but with a bit of dressing it looks fab.
Which brings me neatly on to cushions. And I totally confess to becoming a cushion fiend. I have snapped up an electric cushion collection, such as those pictured below (all from John Lewis) plus others from all sorts of random places which I can’t find online.
The floor is just bare floorboards painted white. Looks great and ever so cheap. Top tip – preparation, preparation, preparation. You can’t sand and clean those floorboards too much! Buy good paint – it’s worth every single penny. We also snapped up another Ikea bargain – the red Hampen rug was just £35.
So all that was left was a little accessorising – we used the Wild & Wolf Trim Phone (a wedding gift), a mustard print from Mengsel Design (the one we featured on Nest the other week), a Jolie Table Lamp, some Post Secret Coffee Table Books (always get people talking!) and a Vitra Eames Elephant Mat (just because!). We’ve also created a photo wall, which once finished I will feature on Nest as a separate post.

Our old house was very neutral – we did the beige, brown, cream thing - this house is going to be a colour sensation!
Next up is the bathroom …. my dear husband decided to rip out our old suite in a moment of madness. He actually goes to sea (he’s a sailor) in a week, so he best be cracking on with putting it all back together else I will be divorcing him!!!
Oh and if you’re wondering what the ‘nearly finished’ referred to at the beginning of this post, it’s the woodburner flue. We’ve had the chimney safety inspection and certificate (£45 from our local chimney sweep) so we’re now good to go …

Such a beautiful room! Love the colour scheme!
I have a whole house to do up from scratch soon and the thought of sofa shopping was starting to freak me out, not least because I’m on a *miniscule* budget – didn’t even think of ikea! Fab!
WM xx
Just so FRESH! Absolutely stunning!!! Very inspirational… (I’m looking at all the colourways of that wallpaper and trying to think of a room it might fit hee hee).
