This play rug by Brink and Campman is divine. Made from hand tufted Japanese acrylic, it reminds me of an abstract artist’s paint palette and I love the rich colours. It would of course be great for laying out toy towns, little people, animals and cars on. £209 Heals

Think instant rustic cool with this Scrapwood Wallpaper by Dutch designer Piet Hein Eek who already has a name for making furniture from scrap wood and metal that manages to avoid straying into the ‘I made this from scrap can’t you tell’ look and instead retains a contemporary design aesthetic. Making a highly unusual feature wall, it’s paste the wall heavy duty wallpaper so easier to hang as well. Each £145 roll of unique planks covers 4m2. From Bodie and Fou and available in different wood styles.

I’m a bit partial to the iconic Verner Panton flower pot pendants although word on the ‘street’ is that they can make the room a bit dark, so aside from loving the retro appeal of this orange dome pendant, it gets extra cool points for its swivel head which means you can angle the light too. £100 at BHS.

Whilst putting together a shopping list for my pal who’s popping to Ikea, I stumbled across the new Solviden range of lighting. What I am loving about these – other than the colours, which is a given – is that they are solar powered.
The solar panel converts sunlight to energy, and they’re easy to use; no cables or plugs are needed! When the battery is fully charged, the product will give full light for approx. 12 hours. There”s an on/off switch and they’re approved for use as outdoor lighting. Recharging time is 9-12 hours in sunlight, but over 12 hours on a cloudy day.
This, I hope, means they perfect for my lean too which has no light! I’ll let you know how we get on!

If you don’t leave in London and the south east, I apologise in advance for being a ‘swoon tease’ although I do believe that they intend to rapidly expand. Tiger a Danish homewares and accessories emporium with Ikea type prices.
After spotting a news piece in the April issue of Ideal Home, I headed there with buddies Heather and Ruth to the one in Croydon. I left with a yellow bathroom bin, pistachio green glazed ceramic oven dish, a bag of chilli flakes, a tub of arts and crafts bits for the kids, two packets of jellybeans (not to my taste though) for just under £20. Ruth snapped up a vintage inspired teapot for around £6 – one of those bamboo handled ones, and Heather went nuts on toys and stationery.
Sadly they don’t have an online store but they do show some highlights although annoyingly nothing that we purchased. The mill plate is £1 and can be used as a grater or zester, the floral ceramic bowl is £2, and the storage baskets which come in various sizes are from around £3 in a selection of colours.

Following up from our Royal Wedding post, I have a couple of new additions to tell you about. First up is this gorgeous limited edition tea towel, the design is ace. And secondly, the two plates which are a modern take on the traditional – naff – wedding plate. The tea towel costs £12 and the plates are £20 each. You can get them all at Hunky Dory Home.

I’m a fan of beanbags, but at home I lost the battle and we have ended up having a Fatboy, which I must confess, I do love. But if I had seen these I may have fought the battle a little harder!
These are from Junior Living, and the shape and style look great. The only downside is they only come in grey with black trim, and grey with yellow trim so you colour lovers will be a little disappointed. The chair is £79 and the stool £38 – both from Found. The bed in this image is also from Junior Living, and you can grab that from Funktion Alley for £523 (ouch!).

I want to have adventures with you … because it’s not one with out you. How cute is that! This print is available from Urban Outfitters for £40. It’s new in, but I can’t tell you more than that as the entry on their online shop is particularly sparse. But I like it, and thought you may too.

I spotted this deliciously abstract Soma wallpaper by Basso & Brooke with its vibrant, geometric print in April’s Ideal Home magazine and a quick check online revealed that it’s actually reduced from £30 down to £10 at Graham & Brown – steal! Obviously something as eclectic as this print isn’t for everyone but for design lovers with a thirst for quirk and colour, shazam!
