Over the weekend, the boyf, the kids and I gorged on blueberry ice cream that I made with my own bare hands. OK that’s not strictly true…
Thanks to my buddy Kat (she writes with me on Bambino Goodies too) who tipped me off to John Lewis’s ice-cream maker, I’ve now, amongst a variety of other weaknesses, developed a penchant for making my own ice-cream with the aid of this splendiferous machine.
For £35 (I always thought I’d have to seriously shell out for something to take out the legwork), it basically comes with a freezer bowl which you store in the freezer until you need to use it, and you make up your recipe, chuck it in, and the churning arm gets to work. I think mine took about 30 minutes and it was ready to eat although you could firm it up a bit more in the freezer for an hour or two.
Thanks (again) to Kat, I got the recipe from River Cottage’s post on the best ice creams in the world and I shall be experimenting with more – I tried the cheaty peachy as well which if you don’t like your ice cream too sweet, is very subtle but tasty.
The machine is great although for once I cannot commend JL on their product descriptions as there is no automatic mixing arm – it’s the bowl that moves.
Just in ‘case’ you’re wondering, the bowl is a bargain buy from Anthropologie which I’m sure added to the ice cream devouring ambience!

Is it a nightmare to clean? Do you think it’ll become a dust collector? I like the idea mind you …. and we do LOVE icecream in our house!
I have tasked myself to use it once a week and so far, I’ve stuck to it. It’s very difficult to eat shop bought ice-cream once you use it. Mine tastes heavenly even if I do say so myself. The kids love it too!
Im looking forward to the homemade icecream flavours eBook!!
