Sew It Up: A Modern Manual of Practical and Decorative Sewing Techniques by Ruth SingerI have a lot of books to help me nest and one of the biggest changes this year is me embracing my love of making my own.

The boyf surprised me with  Sew It Up: A Modern Manual of Practical and Decorative Sewing Techniques last Christmas and it was the trigger for reigniting my love of sewing, giving me confidence and inspiration – I’d owned the machine for a year but hadn’t sewn since my teenage years so I needed a boot up the bum!

It explains sewing techniques (over 200!) in a jargon free way, with great photos and how to’s which also include twenty masterclasses and twenty contemporary projects.

Thanks to textile designer Ruth who also makes lots of her own clothes and accessories, I’m underway with my first curtain project and have a gazillion cushion covers that have transformed my sitting room. Invaluable, we recently gifted my mum with one and it’s never more than a few inches away when I’m beavering. A must have if you’re a novice and really want to get to grips with your machine and making oodles of stuff without being impeded.

RRP £19.99 and £13.99 on Amazon
