Eames DSW Side Chair

Eames DSW Side Chair

For the first time, I have room for a dining table. We’ve opted for a simple but solid oak expanding table. That was the easy choice. But being the chair lover I am, I could not buy the matching run of the mill chairs. I flatly refused. So the chair hunt began… and ended, quite quickly, with the Eames DSW Side Chair.

It meets all my needs. It’s beautifully formed. It’s functional, and with a busy house  which includes a little one, being wipe clean is very, very important! But they’re not cheap. You’re looking in the region of £280+ retail for a Vitra chair (from the likes of John Lewis and the Conran Shop). I need four. So I’m looking at well over a grand. Hmmm.

Eames DSW Reproductions

So onwards the hunt went, and before long I came across some great reproductions including one at Vita Interiors for £129 and another, even cheaper one from MilanDirect £69. So if it’s that Eames look you want but without the price tag, it’s worth checking them out. Do your research though, as the more I hunted, the more reproductions I came across. Do a search on eBay too, there’s loads on there! Some reproductions look great, but some – especially the cheaper ones  - just don’t look right. If you can, go visit their warehouses.

Being the chair snob I am, I am going for option 1. I see these as an investment buy and they also match my RAR perfectly… I’ll give you some in-situ shots soon!

You made the right choice, if you are going to go for one, it’s got to be an original, even if you can’t afford to eat once you are sitting on them!!

Hilarious! But true! Also the thing about the reproductions is that what they’re made of may not actually stand the test of time. I’m eyeing these up also as replacement dining chairs. Vitra does periodical 20% discounts so they get discounted everywhere including at places like The Conran Shop.

Ha, soooo very true! Reproductions have a place, especially for the smaller budget, but Im all about the longevity too and having a piece of iconic design to sit on.
